| IN THE DMZ |
![]() |
What is the De Militarized Zone (DMZ)? And where is it? The DMZ is the High Card Point (HCP) range between a 1 No Trump opener and a 2 No Trump opener
And if you and your partner have
agreed
to raise the opening 1 No Trump range, then:
Note: there are always 2 HCP's
between the
1 NT opening and the 2 NT opening; and these 2 High Card Points are the
DMZ.
The opener in example 1
and example
2 above is in the DMZ. This bid is usually forcing to game in
either
No Trump or in a suit.
And if the responder bids 2 of a
lower ranking
suit (10+ points), then the opener jumps to 3 No Trump. See example
4 above. In the last two examples the responder has the option to
continue
bidding. He can bid game in a suit or investigate slam possibilities.
With a Minor suits raise, opener
might try
3 NT or game in that minor. Example 6 above.
