| There are many types of Doubles.
The two
that we will now consider are: w The Penalty Double. w The Take-Out Double. (You want your partner to take you out of the Double by bidding.) |

PENALTY DOUBLE w You hope to set the Declarer and collect a big bonus. w They could be made at any time during the auction. Most however, are made at high levels toward the end of the bidding. w Most penalty Doubles are optional. If your partner strongly feels that the opponents will make their contract, he can make a bid and negate the Double. |
| TAKE-OUT DOUBLE w If you want your partner to bid a suit then Double opponent’s bid. w Your partner must bid even with 0 points. (There are 2 exceptions). w All Doubles on the one level are Take-Out. w All Doubles are of opponent’s bid. You can not Double your partner. w If the Double is your first call (after an opponent’s bid), it is for Take-Out w Do not use a Take-Out Double if you have length in opponent’s suit. Overcall or Pass. w A Take-Out Double of a Minor implies at least 3/3 in the Majors. (Three cards in each of the Majors.) |
